Black Stars left-back Gideon Mensah is on the verge of securing a move to the Bundesliga after agreeing a long-term deal with 1. FC Köln.
The 26-year-old defender is expected to complete the transfer on a free move after undergoing a medical on Friday, July 10, before signing a contract that will keep him at the German club until 2029.
The move represents a significant milestone in Mensah’s career as he prepares to play in one of Europe’s top leagues with the newly promoted Bundesliga side.
Mensah heads to Germany following an impressive run with Ghana’s Black Stars, where he established himself as the team’s first-choice left-back during the country’s fifth FIFA World Cup campaign.
His consistent defensive displays and ability to contribute in attack made him one of Ghana’s standout performers throughout the tournament.
Once the medical examination is successfully completed, FC Köln is expected to officially unveil the Ghana international as one of its key additions ahead of the new Bundesliga season.
The long-term contract reflects the German club’s confidence in Mensah’s ability to strengthen its defence as it prepares for life back in the top flight.
For the Black Stars defender, the transfer offers an opportunity to test himself at a higher level of European football while continuing to build on his growing international reputation.
