GoldBod Defends Enforcement Action Against Dominic Bonsu Ventures, Rejects GH¢200 Million Loss Claims

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has defended its enforcement action against Dominic Bonsu Ventures, insisting that the company’s licence suspension and the subsequent arrest of its proprietor were regulatory measures unrelated to claims circulating on social media that the Board lost GH¢200 million.

In a statement issued by its Media Relations Unit, GoldBod described the allegations as false, malicious and deliberately misleading, and urged the public to disregard the reports.

The Board said the social media publication falsely claimed that Dominic Bonsu Ventures had absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to GoldBod and alleged that the company’s proprietor had previously served as a bodyguard or personal security officer to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi.

GoldBod categorically denied both claims.

It stated that Dominic Bonsu has never served in any personal security capacity for Mr Gyamfi and that the Board had not advanced or lost GH¢200 million, or any other amount, to either the businessman or his company.

According to GoldBod, the company’s licence was suspended after it was suspected of breaching the terms and conditions of its licence and the GoldBod Trading Directives, in accordance with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

The Board said the suspension formed part of its statutory responsibility to ensure compliance with laws governing Ghana’s gold trading industry.

GoldBod further disclosed that investigations arising from the alleged breaches led to the arrest of Dominic Bonsu, who was subsequently remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where legal proceedings are ongoing.

The Board expressed concern over what it described as attempts to distort the facts surrounding the enforcement action and undermine public confidence in its regulatory operations.

It called on media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and uphold responsible journalism standards.

GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the fair enforcement of Ghana’s gold trading laws, stressing that it would continue to protect the integrity and orderly operation of the country’s gold trading sector through lawful regulatory action.
