President John Mahama has given presidential assent to 10 Bills passed by Parliament, completing the legislative process that brings the new measures into force as law.

The legislation, passed by Parliament over the past month, covers a wide range of areas including taxation, customs administration, energy, cocoa regulation, maritime security, national defence and the justice system.

The latest presidential assent forms part of the government’s broader legislative and policy reform programme aimed at providing new legal frameworks and amending existing laws governing key sectors of the country.

Among the laws signed are the Customs Bill, 2026; Community Service Bill, 2026; Tribunal Bills, 2026; Maritime and Related Offences Bill, 2026; and National Defence University Bill, 2026.

Others are the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026; Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Bill, 2026; Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026; Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026; and Excise Bill, 2026.

The tax-related legislation is expected to introduce changes to Ghana’s revenue framework, with the Income Tax (Amendment), Value Added Tax (Amendment) and Excise Bills providing new or revised provisions on taxation.

The Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Bill also updates the legal framework governing levies within the energy sector.

In the agricultural sector, the Ghana Cocoa Board Bill establishes a new legislative framework for the operations of Ghana’s cocoa regulator, while the Customs Bill provides updated provisions for the administration and enforcement of customs matters.

The justice sector is also affected by the new legislation, with the Community Service Bill and Tribunal Bills introducing measures relating to the administration of justice.

The Maritime and Related Offences Bill provides a legislative framework for dealing with offences within Ghana’s maritime space, while the National Defence University Bill establishes the legal basis for the country’s defence university.

The signing of the Bills marks the final stage of the legislative process after their passage by Parliament, allowing the new laws to take effect in accordance with their respective provisions.

The development is expected to pave the way for the implementation of the reforms contained in the legislation across the affected sectors.
