Harvey Elliott has left Liverpool for a second successive season after completing a season-long loan move to Spanish side Valencia.
The 23-year-old midfielder will spend the 2026-27 campaign at the La Liga club as he looks to secure regular first-team football and revive his progress after struggling to establish himself in Liverpool’s plans.
The agreement does not include an option or obligation for Valencia to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
Elliott travelled to Spain on Monday night after Liverpool and Valencia reached an agreement earlier in the day, completing the transfer after undergoing the necessary formalities.
The England Under-21 international said the opportunity to play regularly in a different league was a major factor behind his decision to join Valencia.
“I wanted the opportunity to come here, play regularly and experience a different league,” Elliott said.
“I’m very grateful to Valencia for giving me that opportunity. I feel ready to get started, but ultimately, it’s down to the coach whether he wants to put me in.”
The move comes despite Elliott featuring regularly for Liverpool during pre-season. However, he was subsequently left out of the squads for matches against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest by new head coach Andoni Iraola.
His departure means Elliott will now spend another season away from Anfield, following his loan spell at Aston Villa last campaign.
Elliott joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2019 at the age of 16 and initially impressed during a loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in the 2020-21 Championship season.
Despite making a number of appearances for Liverpool in subsequent seasons, competition for places has limited his opportunities, prompting another temporary move as he seeks greater playing time.
His Liverpool contract remains valid until 2028.
Valencia, meanwhile, will hope Elliott can provide an attacking boost as they look to improve on a disappointing previous campaign. The Spanish club finished ninth in La Liga last season and missed out on European football.
Their start to the new campaign has also been difficult, with Valencia sitting 16th after failing to win any of their opening three matches.
For Elliott, the spell in Spain offers a fresh opportunity to demonstrate his ability at senior level and convince Liverpool that he can still have a long-term future at Anfield.
