Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to turning the long-anticipated Marine Drive Tourism and Investment Project into a key economic pillar, following a working visit to the site in central Accra.
Positioned as one of Ghana’s most ambitious urban renewal and tourism infrastructure ventures, the Marine Drive project is expected to revamp the capital’s coastline, attract substantial private sector investment, and contribute to Ghana’s GDP growth through tourism and leisure services.
Madam Gomashie, who was joined by senior officials from the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Tourism Development Authority, expressed optimism about the progress made so far by Attachy Construction Limited, the project’s anchor developers. She, however, urged the project management team to accelerate investor engagement to meet the revised timeline for commencement.
“This project has been in the pipeline for far too long. It holds immense potential to transform Ghana’s tourism narrative and position Accra as a vibrant investment destination,” she said.
During a briefing, Mr. Kwame Attah Acheampong, Managing Director of Attachy Construction, assured the delegation that the company had made significant headway with potential investors, noting ongoing cooperation with key stakeholders.
“We are currently in advanced discussions with a number of investors and are confident that we’ll conclude negotiations soon to allow for full project activation,” he said.
The Marine Drive Project, located along the Atlantic coast near Independence Square, is envisioned as a mixed-use tourism hub featuring hotels, cultural centres, retail outlets, and public spaces. Once completed, it is expected to attract over one million tourists annually, create thousands of jobs, and contribute to easing congestion in Accra’s city centre.
With an expected completion date set for 2027, the project is being positioned not only as a catalyst for tourism but as part of Ghana’s broader strategy to diversify the economy and boost infrastructure-led development.
Madam Gomashie was accompanied by Deputy Minister Yussif Issaka Jajah, Acting Chief Director Vitus Otto Langmagne, GTA CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto, and Prof. Kobby Mensah, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Development Authority.
Their visit signals a renewed push by the Ministry to ensure that the Marine Drive Project does not remain a stalled vision, but rather becomes a flagship symbol of Ghana’s tourism-led economic transformation.
