Ghanaians are being urged to brace for potential thunderstorms, heavy rain, and localised flooding today, Monday, April 29, 2025, as a rainstorm system currently battering the northern regions moves southward.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an urgent alert forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across various parts of the country, including Accra, Cape Coast, Takoradi, and parts of the Volta Region. The storm is expected to intensify as it shifts into the middle and coastal belts late this morning into the afternoon.
Current weather data indicates a 40% chance of thunderstorms in Accra, Kasoa, and Cape Coast, raising concerns over possible disruption to daily activities and transport.
GMet has cautioned residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas, particularly in the northern and transitional zones, to take precautions against strong winds and potential flash flooding, warning that the combination of saturated soils and poor drainage could increase vulnerability.
In addition, maritime activities may be affected as sea conditions remain rough along the coast.
Authorities advise the public to stay updated on further forecasts and take necessary safety measures to protect lives and property.
