Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued a stern warning to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly members and aspiring appointees who she believes are working to undermine presidential nominees for local governance positions.
Her remarks come in the wake of the Shai Osudoku District Assembly’s rejection of President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for District Chief Executive, Ignatius Godfred Dordoe. Dordoe failed to secure the required two-thirds majority, garnering only 17 out of 32 votes in the confirmation process.
Addressing the media in Accra on Monday, May 5, Minister Ocloo condemned the actions of some aspirants who she accused of deliberately influencing assembly members to sabotage the president’s choices in hopes of positioning themselves for future appointments.
“If you disgrace the president’s nominee, you shouldn’t think that makes room for your own appointment. That’s a lie,” she warned. “We will ensure that those who instigate such actions are not rewarded. If an assembly fails to confirm a nominee, we’ll still re-present the same candidate—even if it takes a thousand times.”
Ocloo emphasized that the government will not be coerced into changing nominees due to internal lobbying or underhanded political tactics, adding, “We’ll go outside the box if necessary. No new names will be considered if this sabotage continues.”
Her comments underscore growing tension within the party’s local structures as political jockeying intensifies ahead of appointments to key district-level positions.
