Effutu Member of Parliament and Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting judicial independence as a cornerstone of Ghana’s democratic stability.
This pledge was made during the commissioning of a newly constructed court complex in the Effutu municipality, which houses both a High Court and a Circuit Court.
The new facility, aimed at improving access to justice in the rapidly growing Effutu area, is expected to reduce the pressure on existing judicial infrastructure while bringing legal services closer to the community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that a strong judiciary is essential for maintaining law and order, which he described as the “bedrock of a functioning democratic society.” He highlighted the importance of robust legal institutions in safeguarding the freedoms and rights of citizens.
“The commissioning of this law complex reflects a conviction I hold very dear – that law and order form the foundation of any successful democracy. Without a strong judiciary, the very fabric of our democracy begins to erode,” he stated.
Afenyo-Markin further noted that his commitment to supporting judicial infrastructure aligns with his broader goal of ensuring that every citizen has equal access to justice. He underscored the need for continued investments in legal infrastructure as a means of reinforcing public confidence in the rule of law.
“That is why I have committed myself, both in word and in deed, to supporting the systems and structures that safeguard our freedoms and uphold our constitution,” he added.
The newly commissioned court complex is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of Ghana’s justice delivery system, reflecting a broader national agenda to strengthen democratic institutions and promote accountability.
