Residents in Ada have staged a demonstration to demand urgent government action over worsening infrastructure and living conditions in the area.
The protest, organised under the banner “Ada Deserves Better,” saw youth groups march through the principal streets holding placards and calling attention to challenges including poor roads, inadequate healthcare, unreliable water supply, coastal erosion, and lack of street lighting.
According to the demonstrators, the protest was not politically motivated but reflected years of frustration over neglect and underdevelopment in communities across Ada.
Richmond Opesika Tetteh Pupulampo said despite Ada’s economic importance in tourism, fishing, agriculture, salt production, and trade, residents continued to struggle with basic infrastructure deficits.
He identified deteriorating road networks as one of the most urgent concerns, citing roads such as the Sege-Lolonya, Kasseh-Ada Foah, Ada Foah-Totope, and Kasseh-Kanya stretches as being in poor condition.
According to him, the state of the roads had affected transportation, emergency response services, and economic activities within the district.
The group also raised concerns about poor street lighting in several communities, arguing that the absence of functional lighting systems had increased insecurity and made night travel risky for residents.
The demonstrators further appealed for improved healthcare services and stronger interventions to address coastal erosion affecting communities such as Akplabanya, Anyamam, and Azizanya.
They called on government to continue and expand sea defence projects while also providing a permanent solution to water supply challenges facing the area.
Mr Pupulampo said residents had remained committed to national development over the years and deserved equitable development and responsive leadership.
