Residents of Afadzato South in the Volta Region are expected to have easier access to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) services following plans to commission a new NHIS centre in the district before the end of the year.
The Member of Parliament for Afadzato South, Mr Frank Afriyie, announced the development during his accountability series in the district on Monday.
He said the establishment of the centre would help address the difficulties constituents face in accessing NHIS services, particularly those who currently have to travel to Kpando or Hohoe.
Mr Afriyie said bringing NHIS services closer to residents would reduce the time and cost involved in travelling outside the district to access essential services.
He described the initiative as part of his efforts to address challenges confronting constituents and improve access to healthcare-related services.
The MP said the project was also intended to support efforts to increase enrolment onto the NHIS by making registration and other services more accessible to residents.
According to him, decentralising such essential services would make it easier for constituents to access them without having to undertake long journeys.
Mr Afriyie assured residents of his commitment to ensuring that the project was completed and commissioned on schedule before the end of the year.
He said the initiative formed part of broader efforts to bring essential public services closer to the people and improve the quality of life of residents in the district.
