Residents and visitors to Avenorpedo and surrounding communities are set for a week of football, music and entertainment as the Avenorpedo Agbeliza Central Planning Committee prepares to host the 2026 Agbeliza Festival.
The celebration, scheduled for August 24 to 31, will feature a 16-team football gala at the Avenorpedo Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Basic School Park in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The Central Planning Committee Secretary, Mr Reuben Dorkenu, said the sporting competition was designed to bring communities together while adding excitement to this year’s cultural festivities.
He said the participating teams had been drawn from Avenorpedo, Abor, Akatsi and other neighbouring communities.
The teams include Wonders FC of Afife, Weme Great United of Weme, Letsiwofedo Young Stars, Kutsidzi Young Stars of Abor, Iron Breakers of Agordeke, Islanders FC of Anyako, Napado XI of Avenorpedo and Star Wins FC of Abor.
Other participating clubs are Soccer Stars of Xavi, Black Eagles of Atidzive, Red Scorpion of Tsiame, Wonders Hosters of Suife, Mawuli FC of Atsukorfe, Afenyo FC of Have, Squad FC of Afife and Tragic FC of Avenorpedo.
Mr Dorkenu said the festival would go beyond football, with organisers putting together a series of entertainment activities to attract patrons and showcase local talent.
A major highlight will be an artistes’ night featuring performances by popular musicians and entertainment personalities.
Among those expected to perform are Kpese Boy, a popular local musician, and Morgan Narow, winner of the 2026 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Unsung Artiste of the Year award. Several prominent disc jockeys are also expected to provide entertainment during the event.
The organisers said the artistes’ night would provide patrons with an opportunity to relax and enjoy live performances after the football activities.
A beauty pageant has also been included in the programme to showcase the talent, confidence and elegance of young women from the Avenorpedo Agbeliza community.
According to the planning committee, the combination of sports, music and cultural entertainment is expected to make the 2026 celebration one of the most vibrant editions of the Agbeliza Festival.
The committee expressed optimism that the activities would attract indigenes, residents, sports enthusiasts and visitors from within and outside the Volta Region.
Organisers have therefore appealed to individuals, indigenes, corporate organisations, well-wishers and sports lovers to support the festival and participate in the activities.
Preparations at the Avenorpedo EP Basic School Park are said to be progressing steadily as organisers put final arrangements in place for the football gala and other programmes.
