The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has called on the people of Ahafo Ano South West District to unite and build on the development agenda of the late District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Abubakar Sedik.
He said the government remained committed to the development of the district and would work to sustain the projects and initiatives championed by the late DCE during his tenure.
Dr Amoakohene made the commitment when he joined the family, traditional leaders and residents of the district to mourn the sudden death of Mr Sedik.
He described the late DCE as a dedicated public servant who committed himself to improving the living conditions of the people and said his development aspirations should not end with his death.
“One of the most meaningful ways we can honour his memory is to ensure that the development aspirations he carried in his heart continue to receive attention,” he said.
The Minister also appealed to the people to use the period of mourning to strengthen unity, forgiveness and reconciliation, noting that the late DCE had worked for peaceful coexistence.
He urged residents to avoid hatred, bitterness and unnecessary divisions and instead work together for the development of the district and the country.
Dr Amoakohene acknowledged that people might have different interpretations of the circumstances surrounding the late DCE’s death but urged the community to remain calm and united.
“Everyone may tell their own version of what happened and what led to what. People will have their interpretations and perspectives but ultimately, God is faithful,” he said.
Mr Sedik, who previously served two terms as a Constituency Chairman and was the NDC’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the area, was later appointed DCE for Ahafo Ano South West.
He died on Sunday, September 19, 2026, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi after a short illness.
He reportedly became ill while returning from a meeting with Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, together with other DCEs in the Ashanti Region.
Prior to the incident, Mr Sedik had led staff of the Assembly to attend the funeral rites of the mother of two other Assembly staff members at Mankranso.
