Prominent businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Seidu Agongo, has once again demonstrated his commitment to humanity by settling the medical bills of 25 patients at the Child Emergency Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
His generosity did not end there—he also donated GHS20,000 to help procure essential medical consumables such as gloves and syringes.
During the donation ceremony, Alhaji Agongo announced his intention to repaint the unit and repair all its air conditioning systems, ensuring a more comfortable environment for both patients and staff. The Deputy Chief Nursing Officer of the unit, Madam Mary Asiedu, expressed deep appreciation for his continued support, describing his gesture as a beacon of hope.
A Legacy of Giving
Alhaji Agongo’s relationship with the Child Emergency Unit is not new. In 2018, he financed the construction of a new block for the unit after witnessing the dire congestion issues affecting healthcare delivery. Since then, he has remained a steadfast supporter of the facility, providing various forms of assistance to improve conditions.
Beyond the Korle-Bu donation, Alhaji Agongo has launched a broader initiative, the ‘Ramadan Donation’, aimed at covering the medical bills of delivery women in five hospitals across two regions. The hospitals benefiting from this initiative include Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Mamobi Polyclinic, Adabraka Polyclinic in Accra, and St. Anthony Hospital in Dzodze.
“This is a special period of reflection, prayer, and sharing. I have chosen to support women who give birth during this time, ensuring that financial constraints do not overshadow their moment of joy,” he said.
The initiative, which began on March 3 and will run until March 31, has already benefitted 45 women, with medical bills being cleared three times a week at the selected hospitals.
