The Accra High Court has approved bail of GHC10 million for Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former board chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, as he faces trial over alleged financial misconduct tied to the abandoned Sky Train project.
Presiding judge Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe ordered the 79-year-old academic to present two sureties backed by landed property in the Greater Accra Region. Additional bail conditions include surrendering his passport and weekly police reporting.
Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi stands accused on multiple counts, including willful financial loss to the state and misapplication of public funds, stemming from a disputed US$2 million payment to a South African firm contracted for the unimplemented urban rail initiative.
The trial’s next procedural hearing is scheduled for June 10, 2025, to set timelines and clarify the trial’s progression.
