Anfoega Senior High School has inaugurated a dedicated Science and Mathematics Quiz Centre as part of its 60th Anniversary celebrations, aiming to strengthen science education and enhance performance in national competitions.
The centre was established in memory of the late Harrison E. Owu, a former student passionate about science, through the efforts of his friends and alumnus Mr. Herman Prosper Delali Agbo. Speaking to the media, Mr. Agbo explained that the initiative was conceived to address declining performance in the National Science and Maths Quiz and to provide a lasting tribute to Mr. Owu’s legacy.
An estimated GH¢50,000 has been invested in the facility, with plans to establish a fund supporting teachers and students engaged in science research. A governing board chaired by Professor Atsu Francis, alongside co-chairmen Dr. Selase Kwaku Dotse and Mr. Kwaku Eric Vlidzo, will oversee implementation and ensure the centre’s sustainability.
Dr. Dotse, speaking on behalf of the family of the late Mr. Owu, described the project as a transformation of grief into a lasting educational legacy, pledging ongoing support including an additional GH¢5,000 contribution.
The Headmaster, Albert Kwasi Dodo, praised the alumni for the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve teaching and learning outcomes while preparing students for science competitions.
Professor Atsu emphasised that the centre will be institutionalised, with plans to expand into a full-scale facility incorporating remote teaching support, ensuring a sustained impact on generations of students.
