Asante Gold Bibiani Limited is deepening its impact in host communities through education, awarding full scholarships to 143 brilliant but financially challenged tertiary students under its Educational Financial Assistance Scheme (EFAS).
The initiative, which began in 2017, has become one of the company’s flagship corporate social responsibility programmes, aimed at building a skilled human resource base within its operational zone. At a ceremony held in Bibiani, EFAS Chairman Mr. Johnson Ben Oduro emphasised that empowering the youth through education remains central to the company’s long-term vision for community development.
He noted that beneficiaries of the scheme are being equipped with skills that could enable them to secure employment within the mining sector or pursue other career opportunities across the country. Mr. Oduro encouraged residents to take advantage of the scholarship programme and support the company’s broader development agenda.
Representatives from the local education directorate also praised Asante Gold for its continued investment in human capital. Mr. Emmanuel Frimpong, speaking on behalf of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Education Director, said the company’s commitment to improving education in the area was commendable and urged the beneficiaries to excel academically to sustain the scheme for future students.
Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Sebastian Obeng applauded Asante Gold for demonstrating responsibility to its host communities. He noted that the scholarships were timely interventions that would assist students in achieving higher education and secure brighter futures. He reminded the beneficiaries to remain disciplined and serve as ambassadors of the company.
One of the awardees, Mr. Osei Joseph, a BSc Mining Engineering student at the University of Mines and Technology, expressed gratitude on behalf of the group, pledging to work hard to honour the investment made in them. Several parents also shared heartfelt appreciation, explaining that the scholarships had removed what would have been a major financial barrier to their children’s education.
Through EFAS, Asante Gold continues to shape the future of the Bibiani community—demonstrating how targeted educational support can change lives and strengthen relationships between companies and the people they serve.
