Businessman and politician Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu has been named Ghana’s High Commissioner-Designate to Nigeria, a move aimed at bolstering diplomatic and economic relations between the two West African neighbours.
Announcing the appointment on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel O. Ablakwa praised Abu’s selection, stating: “I have no doubt you will hold aloft Ghana’s flag and make the youth of our continent proud.”
In response, Baba Sadiq expressed gratitude on X, describing the appointment as an “honour” and pledging to serve Ghana with “diligence and integrity.” He emphasized his commitment to strengthening Ghana-Nigeria cooperation across diplomatic, economic, and cultural sectors.
The appointment comes as Ghana seeks to deepen engagement with Nigeria, the country’s largest neighbour and a major economic partner in the region. Baba Sadiq succeeds Baba Jamal, who is currently contesting the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election.
