The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has dismissed media reports claiming it is considering selling its newly commissioned headquarters, describing the publication as false and misleading.
The clarification follows a report suggesting that the central bank was exploring the possibility of disposing of its recently completed head office, known as The Bank Square.
In a statement issued on June 2, 2026, the Bank firmly denied the claims, stressing that no such discussions, plans or considerations are underway.
“The Bank of Ghana categorically states that this report is false and misleading,” the statement said.
According to the central bank, the new headquarters remains a key national asset designed to enhance operational efficiency and support the institution in carrying out its statutory mandate.
The Bank Square, construction of which began in 2019 under the previous administration, was officially commissioned in November 2024 by then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The Bank of Ghana relocated its operations to the facility in September 2025, replacing its former headquarters, which officials had described as outdated and inadequate.
The BoG cautioned the public and media outlets against spreading unverified information, warning that such reports could undermine confidence in the country’s financial system.
“We urge the public and the media to disregard this publication. Unverified reports of this nature have the potential to undermine public confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty,” the statement added.
The central bank reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s financial sector and ensuring transparency in its operations.
