New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed optimism about the party’s chances of returning to power in the 2028 general elections, citing John Boadu’s leadership experience as a key factor in the party’s preparations.
Dr Bawumia said Mr Boadu’s previous tenure as General Secretary, during which the NPP won the 2016 general elections, gave him confidence that the party could repeat that success under his leadership.
He made the remarks at a birthday celebration for Mr Boadu, where he described the former General Secretary’s election as National Chairman as a positive development for the party’s electoral ambitions.
“I am very confident that winning the chairmanship for the NPP is a sign that this party is going to come back to power in 2028. John has done it before when he was General Secretary; he brought us back to power, and I believe by the Grace of God he will bring us back to power,” Dr Bawumia said.
However, the NPP flagbearer acknowledged that experienced leadership alone would not guarantee electoral victory, stressing that the party’s success would depend on the commitment and cooperation of its members.
He urged party supporters and executives to put aside their differences, remain united and work collectively towards the 2028 elections.
“We all have to work very hard and keep the unity in this party. Unity will take us to victory. Let us stay together and make sure we win for the sake of Ghana,” he added.
Dr Bawumia’s remarks place party unity and the mobilisation of members at the centre of the NPP’s efforts to regain power, with the flagbearer calling for a collective commitment to the party’s electoral objectives.
His confidence in Mr Boadu’s leadership is anchored in the latter’s experience as General Secretary during the NPP’s successful 2016 election campaign, which returned the party to government.
