New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has urged policymakers to create more opportunities for young Ghanaians, saying the country must better align employment and business prospects with the ambitions of its youth.
In a message marking International Youth Day, Dr Bawumia said many young people are struggling to find decent jobs, establish businesses and secure a stable future, despite their talent and determination.
He noted that young Ghanaians, regardless of their backgrounds, share common aspirations centred on employment, entrepreneurship and living with dignity.
According to him, those aspirations are increasingly being constrained by limited job opportunities and the high cost of starting and sustaining businesses, leaving many young people uncertain about their future.
Dr Bawumia described Ghana’s youthful population as one of the nation’s greatest assets and said the country’s development depends on creating an environment where young people can fully realise their potential.
“The responsibility of policymakers is to ensure that the opportunities available to young people match their ambitions,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 12.
He added that government and national leaders must continue to believe in the ability of Ghanaian youth to shape the country’s future, insisting that their energy, innovation and ambition remain critical to national progress.
The former Vice President’s remarks come amid ongoing public concerns over youth unemployment, entrepreneurship financing and broader economic opportunities for young people in Ghana.
