Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party members to preserve and build on the legacy of former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Dr Bawumia said the two former NPP administrations introduced major social intervention programmes that have had a lasting impact on Ghanaians.
He made the remarks while addressing delegates at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
According to Dr Bawumia, programmes such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the School Feeding Programme and free maternal healthcare introduced under President Kufuor, as well as the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy implemented under President Akufo-Addo, would remain significant contributions to Ghana’s development.
He said the interventions had expanded access to healthcare and education and improved the lives of many Ghanaians.
Dr Bawumia maintained that the NPP had demonstrated its commitment to policies aimed at addressing the social and economic needs of ordinary citizens.
He therefore called on party members to recognise the contributions of the two former presidents and use their record in government as a foundation for the party’s future programmes.
The NPP flagbearer also appealed for unity among party members, stressing the need for the party to remain focused on its development agenda.
He said building on the achievements of previous NPP administrations would require a united party and a commitment to policies that deliver tangible benefits to Ghanaians.
