The Black Meteors will officially begin preparations for the 2026 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Wednesday, August 5, with a training camp in Accra involving home-based players.
The technical team has invited players from Ghana Premier League and Division One League clubs to report to Erata Hotel in East Legon at 4:00 p.m., marking the first phase of the team’s build-up for the qualifying campaign.
The camp is expected to provide head coach Desmond Ofei with an opportunity to assess local talent and begin assembling the core of the squad that will represent Ghana in the qualifiers.
The Ghana-based players are expected to form the foundation of the team, while arrangements for foreign-based players will be announced at a later date.
Ghana will not be in action during the September qualifying window after receiving a bye from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
As a result, the Black Meteors are expected to begin their qualifying campaign in October, with the official fixture schedule yet to be released by CAF.
The upcoming qualifiers form part of Ghana’s bid to secure a place at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, with qualification also offering a pathway to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Accra camp represents the beginning of Ghana’s preparations as the Black Meteors aim to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for continental success and Olympic qualification.
