As the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) approaches, Ghana’s Black Queens are deepening their preparations in Morocco, with head coach Kim Lars Björkegren set to announce the final 23-player squad on July 1. The team is building on a promising training camp and warm-up matches to make a strong impact after a six-year hiatus from the tournament.
Stationed in North Africa, the Queens have been refining their strategies and cohesion ahead of the tournament kickoff on July 5. Their recent 3-1 victory over Malawi showcased their offensive prowess, highlighted by star striker Doris Boaduwaa’s impressive hat-trick.
Ahead of the group stage, Ghana will test their readiness against Benin at the Ziaida Complex in Benslimane, followed by a crucial friendly against fierce rivals Nigeria. These matches will provide Coach Björkegren with vital insights to finalize his squad selections and tactical plans.
Facing a competitive Group C alongside defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania, the Black Queens are poised to demonstrate resilience and ambition as they return to continental competition, aiming to reestablish their presence on the African women’s football stage.
