Bono East Welcomes New DVLA Facility

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has strengthened Ghana’s drive toward accessible public services with the commissioning of a new office in Nkoranza, Bono East Region, marking another milestone in its nationwide expansion strategy aimed at bringing essential driver and vehicle licensing services closer to citizens.

The new facility reflects the Authority’s broader commitment to decentralising service delivery by ensuring that motorists, commercial operators and vehicle owners can access critical licensing services without undertaking long and costly journeys to distant regional centres.

“The opening of the Nkoranza office underscores the Authority’s commitment to delivering efficient, accessible and customer-centred services to every part of the country.”

At the commissioning ceremony, DVLA Chief Executive Julius Neequaye Kotey described the opening of the office as a demonstration of the Authority’s determination to provide efficient, accessible and customer centred services across every part of Ghana. He said the expansion forms an integral part of the DVLA’s long term vision of improving public convenience through strategic investments in infrastructure and technology.

According to the Chief Executive, residents of Nkoranza and surrounding communities will now enjoy easier access to services including vehicle registration, driver’s licence acquisition and renewal, ownership transfers and roadworthiness certification services that previously required extensive travel outside the municipality.

Mr. Kotey further explained that the commissioning aligns with the Authority’s digital transformation agenda, which seeks to improve operational efficiency, strengthen road safety and deliver a seamless customer experience. He encouraged staff assigned to the new office to uphold professionalism, integrity and excellence in serving the public.

The commissioning also received strong endorsement from the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South and Minister for Special Initiatives, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, who described the facility as a landmark achievement for the municipality. He noted that the presence of the DVLA would significantly improve access to essential government services.

“The presence of the Authority in Nkoranza will improve access to essential public services while supporting local economic growth.”

Beyond improving convenience for motorists, the Minister observed that the new office is expected to contribute to local economic growth by making licensing and vehicle registration services more accessible to businesses, commercial transport operators and individual vehicle owners throughout the area.

He commended the leadership of the DVLA for extending its operational footprint into Nkoranza and assured the Authority of the municipality’s continued support to ensure the successful operation and long term sustainability of the facility.

The commissioning ceremony attracted a broad cross-section of stakeholders, including traditional leaders, officials of the Nkoranza Municipal Assembly, heads of security agencies, representatives of transport unions, members of the business community, DVLA staff and residents, highlighting the significance of the project to the municipality’s development.

The opening of the office reflects a growing recognition that decentralised public institutions play a critical role in improving service delivery, reducing administrative bottlenecks and strengthening public confidence in government institutions through greater accessibility. This broader observation is an inference from the document’s emphasis on decentralisation and improved access, rather than a direct statement.

For the DVLA, the Nkoranza office represents another important step in a wider programme that combines infrastructure expansion with digital innovation to improve convenience for motorists while reinforcing the Authority’s contribution to safer roads and more efficient public administration.

As Ghana continues to modernise its public service institutions, the commissioning of the Nkoranza office stands as an example of how targeted investments in local infrastructure can bridge service gaps, stimulate regional development and bring government services closer to the people they are intended to serve.
