The Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP) Cooperative Credit Union Limited recorded remarkable growth across key financial indicators in 2025, nearly doubling its income, expanding its investment portfolio and attracting thousands of new members.
The strong performance was announced at the Credit Union’s 10th Annual General Meeting, where management highlighted significant gains in revenue generation, membership growth and community impact.
Board Chairman, Mr. Melchizedek Tenkorang Oduro, disclosed that the Union’s total income increased from GH¢3.3 million in 2024 to GH¢6.2 million in 2025, representing an impressive growth of approximately 90 per cent.
According to him, the substantial increase was driven largely by improved recovery of interest on loans and prudent financial management practices.
The Credit Union also strengthened its investment base significantly during the period under review.
Its investment portfolio grew from GH¢4.05 million in 2024 to GH¢12.6 million in 2025, representing a remarkable increase of about 211 per cent and reflecting the institution’s growing financial stability.
In addition, the Union continued to provide financial support to members through its loan schemes, disbursing a total of GH¢31.02 million to members to support personal, business and economic activities.
Membership growth was equally notable.
The Credit Union’s membership rose from 5,328 in 2024 to 7,873 in 2025, representing a growth rate of approximately 48 per cent and underscoring growing confidence in the institution’s services.
Beyond its financial achievements, the Credit Union maintained its commitment to social responsibility by investing GH¢65,216 in community development projects and initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of people within its operational areas.
Despite the positive results, Mr. Oduro acknowledged that the institution continued to face challenges, including declining returns on investments, increasing operational costs and difficulties encountered by some members in meeting loan repayment and savings obligations.
He assured members that the Board and Management remained focused on implementing strategic measures to strengthen the institution’s future.
These efforts include advancing digital transformation, improving governance systems, enhancing member value and increasing the Union’s impact within communities.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Anthony Simons, Western Regional Chairman of the Ghana Cooperative Credit Unions Association, described credit unions as important instruments for financial empowerment and national development.
He stressed that credit unions were not established solely for low-income earners but were open to all individuals seeking financial security, growth and independence.
“Credit unions are vital pillars of national development—a movement built on solidarity, tested by resilience, and driven by a shared responsibility to uplift one another,” he stated.
Professor Simons noted that credit unions in Ghana had remained resilient and relevant despite decades of changes within the financial sector since the movement began in 1955.
He urged the leadership of the BOPP Cooperative Credit Union to continue demonstrating transparency, accountability and visionary leadership while encouraging members to remain active, disciplined and committed to the cooperative principles.
As part of the annual meeting, the Board proposed a dividend of GH¢0.12 per share, amounting to GH¢438,040.90 for the 2025 financial year.
The event also celebrated members and staff who distinguished themselves through outstanding performance.
Master Kwesi Asiedu Jnr and Miss Christlove Asiedu were named Best Kiddy Savers, while Madam Ama Nkrumah and Mr. Maxwell Martey received awards as the Top Female Saver and Top Male Saver respectively.
Ms. Leticia Asare and Mr. Godwin Mensah were recognised as the Highest Shareholders, while several staff members and branch offices were honoured for their dedication, commitment and exceptional service.
The results reinforce the Credit Union’s position as a growing financial institution committed to empowering members, supporting communities and promoting sustainable economic development.
