Hollywood actor Boris Kodjoe has deepened his connection with his Ghanaian ancestry after receiving an honorary chieftaincy in Prampram, the hometown of his grandfather.
Kodjoe, who was born in Austria and has Ghanaian and German heritage, was honoured by the Paramount Chief of Prampram, Nene Tetteh Wakah, during a visit to the traditional area.
The actor was in Prampram while filming a documentary exploring his family history and connection to Ghana.
His visit took him to the community where his grandfather, Joseph Cecil Ofuatey-Kodjoe, was born, allowing him to reconnect with his ancestral roots and members of his extended family.
Kodjoe was accompanied by Chief Nene Annorbitettey Mansro and welcomed by relatives during the visit.
Reflecting on the experience in an Instagram post on Saturday, October 3, the actor described the occasion as one he would “never forget”.
He expressed gratitude to his nephew, Curtis Nana Kofi Egyir, and Anguah Anorkor Abbey for helping to coordinate the visit and facilitate the reunion with his family and ancestral community.
The honorary chieftaincy has added a traditional dimension to Kodjoe’s reconnection with Prampram, where his family history stretches back generations.
For the actor, the visit has also highlighted the enduring links between descendants and their ancestral communities, regardless of where successive generations have lived.
“The power of ancestry reaches beyond generations and across oceans,” Kodjoe wrote.
The actor’s visit comes as part of his broader effort to document and explore his Ghanaian heritage through the documentary project, while reconnecting with relatives and the community associated with his family history.
