Ghanaian table tennis star Celia Baah-Danso has earned a major international leadership role after being elected to the International Table Tennis Federation Athletes’ Commission.
The election took place during the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals 2026 in London, where the announcement was made by ITTF General Secretary Stefan Bergh.
Her victory marks a significant milestone for both Ghana and Africa, as it gives the continent representation on a key decision-making body that advises the global federation on athlete welfare and policy issues.
Baah-Danso, who has represented Ghana in several international competitions, campaigned on strengthening athlete representation, improving communication between players and officials, and promoting fairness in the sport.
“My primary goal is to represent the voice of athletes,” she said, adding that she plans to work closely with stakeholders to address concerns affecting players worldwide.
She also pledged to advocate for greater transparency and integrity within the global table tennis system.
The ITTF Athletes’ Commission serves as a bridge between athletes and the federation, helping shape policies that directly impact players.
The Ghana Table Tennis Association has welcomed her election, describing it as a major step forward for Ghana’s growing influence in international sports administration.
Her appointment highlights Ghana’s expanding role in global table tennis—not only through competition but also through leadership and policymaking.
