Chelsea FC have dismissed manager Liam Rosenior following a sharp decline in form that has put the club’s season in jeopardy.
The decision comes just days before a crucial FA Cup semifinal, with assistant coach Calum McFarlane stepping in as interim manager for the remainder of the campaign.
Chelsea’s hierarchy acted after a damaging run of five consecutive Premier League defeats without scoring, culminating in a heavy loss to Brighton & Hove Albion. The slump has left the club struggling to secure a top-five finish and a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Club officials acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but pointed to performances falling below expectations at a critical stage of the season.
Rosenior’s tenure, which began in January, initially showed promise with a strong run of results. However, form quickly deteriorated, including elimination from Europe by Paris Saint-Germain and a string of domestic setbacks.
The downturn has increased pressure on the club’s ownership under Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly, especially with the financial implications of potentially missing out on Champions League qualification.
Rosenior becomes the latest managerial casualty in a period of instability at Stamford Bridge, as the club continues its search for long-term direction following its transition from the era of Roman Abramovich.
With the FA Cup still within reach and league ambitions hanging in the balance, Chelsea now face a defining end to the season under interim leadership.
