The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has affirmed that it is actively probing a complaint by a Circuit Court Judge alleging harassment, wrongful towing of her vehicle, and assault on her court clerk—but stresses that no officers have been detained, contrary to recent media reports.
In a statement today, the CID explained that on April 7, 2025, it received a petition from a judge claiming that on December 13, 2024, four Adenta Divisional Command officers—led by Inspector Godwin Dey—had “harassed” her outside the Adenta Court Complex, wrongfully towed her car, and assaulted her clerk. The judge further contended that her formal complaint to the divisional police had gone unanswered.
“Upon receipt of the petition, we invited Inspectors Dey and Francis Adjei, Sergeant Dasebre Oti Boateng, and Corporal Jonah Ajubulisa to the CID headquarters to give statements,” the Service stated. “At no point were these officers detained—they provided their accounts and departed once their statements were recorded.”
The Police Administration urged the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise, calling such stories “false, baseless and without merit.” It reiterated its commitment to due process: “We will continue this investigation in line with established procedures, supporting officers who act lawfully while holding any misconduct to account.”
Affirming its dual mandate of professionalism and accountability, the CID concluded, “The Police Service stands by its personnel in the lawful discharge of duties, yet will not hesitate to take necessary actions should any officer be found to have acted improperly.”
