Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) have commenced an indefinite nationwide strike today, Monday, March 9, in protest against delays in implementing their agreed conditions of service.
The industrial action is expected to disrupt administrative operations across several ministries, departments and agencies, as well as local government offices throughout the country where CLOGSAG members play key roles in public administration.
The leadership of the association says the decision follows repeated attempts to engage the government over the matter without receiving a satisfactory response.
Despite an order from the National Labour Commission directing the association to suspend the strike and return to the negotiating table, CLOGSAG has instructed its members to proceed with the industrial action.
Officials of the association argue that the prolonged delay in implementing the agreed conditions of service has caused growing frustration among members who feel their welfare concerns have not been adequately addressed.
Speaking ahead of the strike, the Public Relations Officer of CLOGSAG, Edmund Aquaye, said the association had not received any formal communication from the government since the strike notice was announced last week.
According to him, the association expected the government, as the employer, to initiate discussions with the union to resolve the issue.
He therefore urged members across the country to comply with the strike directive and stay away from work until their concerns are addressed.
The strike is expected to continue until the government engages the association and takes steps toward implementing the agreed conditions of service.
