The protest by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) against the appointment of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry has persisted in the Kadjebi District, with government offices remaining closed to the public.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to key district offices, including the Births and Deaths Registry, Environmental Health Directorate, Planning, Budget, and Finance departments, revealed that these offices were shut down, with no staff present.
Speaking to GNA, Mr. Emmanuel Doe, the Kadjebi District Chairperson of CLOGSAG, stated that they were awaiting further directives from the association’s national office regarding the ongoing strike action.
Some CLOGSAG members, who spoke anonymously, expressed differing opinions on the protest. While some argued that such critical appointments should be made from within the civil service, others believed the association should not interfere in government appointments.
During a meeting held on Saturday, February 22, the National Executive Council (NEC) of CLOGSAG unanimously decided to continue the strike, citing the lack of a clear roadmap to resolve the issue.
“After deliberating on the request, the NEC was unanimous on the following: that the strike should continue; that the request by Mr. Abdul-Rashid H. Pelpuo lacks a roadmap for the resolution of the matter,” said Mr. Isaac Bampo Addo, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG.
CLOGSAG initially declared a nationwide strike on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in opposition to Mr. Botchway’s appointment, arguing that the selection process did not align with established civil service protocols.
As the strike continues, public access to essential government services remains disrupted, with uncertainty surrounding when the matter will be resolved.
