The executive management and senior staff of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) have accepted salary reductions as part of emergency measures to address persistent liquidity challenges in Ghana’s cocoa sector.
In a statement issued by the Chief Executive, Randy Abbey, management announced that executive members will take a 20% pay cut, while senior staff salaries will be reduced by 10%. The adjustments take effect from Monday, February 16, 2026, and will remain in place for the rest of the 2025/26 crop year.
The salary cuts form part of a broader cost-containment strategy designed to align expenditure with revenue amid financial pressures confronting the cocoa industry. Additional measures include tighter procurement controls and a staff rationalisation exercise aimed at trimming operational costs.
COCOBOD indicated that the steps are intended to stabilise the sector’s finances while safeguarding core operations and protecting the livelihoods of cocoa farmers. The Board stressed that ensuring long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry remains a top priority despite the current liquidity constraints.
