Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has emerged as the new Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing a decisive victory in the party’s regional executive elections.
COKA polled 663 votes, comfortably defeating his main contender, former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Chief Executive Officer Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who garnered 269 votes.
The wide margin came as a surprise to some party observers who had anticipated a tightly contested race between the two leading candidates.
The victory marks a significant political comeback for COKA, who had previously contested the Ashanti Regional chairmanship position twice but lost on both occasions to former chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking after his election, COKA thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him and appealed to members of the party to put the contest behind them and work together for the future of the NPP.
He further urged his supporters to celebrate the victory with humility and restraint, stressing the need for unity as the party begins a new phase of reorganisation and mobilisation in the Ashanti Region.
Ten other executives were also elected to various positions to serve alongside the new regional chairman.
Chairperson of the Elections Committee, Rita Asobayire, commended delegates and candidates for maintaining peace and order throughout the electoral process.
The newly elected regional executives are expected to spearhead the NPP’s restructuring and mobilisation activities in the Ashanti Region as the party works towards rebuilding its grassroots base ahead of the 2028 general elections.
COKA’s victory is expected to strengthen his influence within the party’s Ashanti Regional structure and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the region’s NPP leadership.
