A contender for the communications officer position in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Keskine Owusu Poku, has predicted a decisive victory for Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Coka, in the party’s upcoming regional chairman election.
Mr Owusu Poku believes Coka’s expected victory will mark a new beginning for the NPP in the Ashanti Region and help rebuild the party’s structures ahead of future political contests.
In a social media post ahead of the August 15 election, he described the contest as an opportunity for the party to renew its organisational strength and reconnect with its supporters in the region.
“Tomorrow will be a rebirth of NPP in the Ashanti Region. Under the leadership of Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, the love for the party in the region shall be restored and the structures of the party will work once again,” he stated.
His comments come as competition for the position of Ashanti Regional Chairman intensifies, with Coka and lawyer William Yamoah Kokofu emerging as the leading contenders in the race.
Reports from the region suggest that Kokofu has been making significant inroads and is believed to have the backing of a section of the party establishment.
Coka, however, remains confident of securing victory. Having previously contested the position, he is seeking to return to the leadership of the party at the regional level.
The election is expected to be closely watched, given the strategic importance of the Ashanti Region to the NPP and its role in the party’s electoral fortunes.
Supporters of the respective candidates are expected to mobilise delegates as the party prepares to choose a new regional leadership team.
For Owusu Poku, however, the outcome should go beyond the selection of a chairman and focus on rebuilding the party’s grassroots structures and restoring confidence among supporters.
He believes a Coka victory would provide the leadership needed to revive the party’s organisational structures and strengthen its presence across the Ashanti Region.
