Calls for national unity and stronger moral discipline dominated Eid-ul-Adha celebrations at Twifo Praso in the Twifo-Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region, where leaders urged Ghanaians to uphold peace, tolerance, and responsible citizenship.
The Central Regional Representative on the Council of State, Mr. Hakeem Adae, used the occasion to appeal for greater national cohesion, stressing that despite differences in religion and political affiliation, Ghanaians share a common identity and destiny.
He noted that while citizens may worship in different ways, they ultimately serve one God and must therefore promote mutual respect, religious tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
“We are one people with a common destiny,” he emphasized, urging citizens to avoid actions that could divide the country along religious or political lines.
Mr. Adae said maintaining harmony among religious groups was essential for sustaining Ghana’s long-standing peace and stability, particularly at a time when unity is critical for national development.
Also addressing the gathering, the Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Mr. Theophilus Vondee, together with the District Chief Executive, Mr. Isaac Yawson, reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding peaceful relations among Muslims, Christians, and traditional leaders.
They commended the spirit of coexistence in the constituency and across the country, describing it as a valuable national asset that must be protected and strengthened.
The leaders also expressed support for ongoing development efforts under the current administration, noting that national unity remains essential for successful implementation of government projects.
In a separate message, the Student Chief Imam, Suleman Abudelah, focused on youth discipline, warning against drug abuse and its destructive impact on individuals and communities.
He cautioned that substance abuse undermines productivity, fuels social vices, and destroys the future of young people.
The Chief Imam further called on authorities to intensify efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure that offenders are prosecuted to deter others and safeguard the youth.
The event ended with renewed calls for unity, discipline, and shared responsibility in building a peaceful and progressive society.
