Controversial evangelist and media personality Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa or Mama Pat, is set to regain her freedom on March 3, 2026, following a High Court decision that significantly reduced her prison term.
Her release comes after the Amasaman High Court reviewed her original 15-year sentence with hard labour and substituted it with a 12-month custodial term and a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to about GH¢2,400. The revised sentence, which runs from her conviction date of July 3, 2025, made her eligible for remission under Ghana’s standard prison regulations.
Agradaa was convicted by an Accra Circuit Court on charges including charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. The case stemmed from a widely publicised church service at her Heaven Way Champion International Ministry in Weija, where she was accused of promoting a money-doubling scheme that allegedly failed to deliver on promised financial returns to congregants.
While the High Court upheld her conviction in February 2026, it ruled that the initial 15-year sentence was excessive and disproportionate, leading to the downward revision.
Under Ghana’s remission policy, inmates who demonstrate good conduct may have up to one-third of their sentence reduced. Having served two-thirds of her revised term, Agradaa now qualifies for release.
Her lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour, has maintained that the remission follows routine correctional procedures and does not constitute preferential treatment.
The case has remained a subject of intense public discussion, reflecting broader debates about faith-based financial claims, consumer protection, and sentencing standards within the justice system.
