Highlife singer Dada KD has made it clear that he has chosen to distance himself from political and governance issues, stating that he no longer has the energy or time to engage in such conversations.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo show with Nana Romeo, Dada KD shared his personal decision to focus on his music and well-being rather than politics. “The strength for that is no longer there,” he explained, emphasizing that his priority is now maintaining his mental peace. “I don’t have the time to have these conversations anymore. I am doing all I possibly can and when it’s time to go [die], I will leave,” he added, stressing the importance of focusing on what matters most to him.
He further reflected on the emotional toll of politics, suggesting that dwelling on such matters could lead him down a destructive path. “If I don’t do this, I will get into the habit of drinking towards my own destruction over political and governance issues,” Dada KD admitted.
In response to a listener’s comment about former President Nana Akufo-Addo allegedly buying him a car, Dada KD responded with humor, asking, “Why, am I his child?” He clarified that although he considers himself part of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) “family,” he is not an active card-bearing member of the party and has not personally received anything from them. However, he expressed loyalty, saying, “No matter how bad it may be, we are faithful.”
When asked about the new administration under President John Mahama, Dada KD remained cautious, opting for a measured response: “Let’s see what they do.”
The decision to step back from politics marks a shift for the artist, who has long been known for his reflective, often politically aware lyrics. Now, Dada KD aims to focus solely on his craft and personal peace.
