The Denkyirahene, Odeefo Boa Amponsem IV, has identified unity and peaceful coexistence as critical to unlocking sustainable development in the Denkyira Traditional Area.
He said continued cooperation among chiefs, elders, youth and residents would create a stable environment for investment and development while ensuring that Denkyira’s cultural identity was preserved for future generations.
Odeefo Boa Amponsem made the call during the sixth Akwasidae celebration at the Denkyira Traditional Council, which brought together traditional leaders, government representatives, community members and other stakeholders.
The celebration, characterised by traditional rites, drumming and dancing, also provided an opportunity for the traditional authorities and residents to reflect on the development needs and challenges of the area.
The Denkyirahene urged chiefs and elders to set aside their differences and use dialogue to resolve disputes, stressing that divisions within the traditional area could undermine efforts to improve the wellbeing of residents.
He particularly appealed to the youth to avoid activities that could threaten peace and stability, urging them instead to contribute positively to the development of their communities.
According to him, a united traditional area would be better positioned to attract development opportunities and create prospects for the younger generation.
Odeefo Boa Amponsem also called on residents to respect traditional authority and support initiatives aimed at improving key sectors, including education, healthcare, sanitation and agriculture.
He stressed that development should go hand in hand with the protection of Denkyira’s cultural heritage.
The Denkyirahene said traditional celebrations such as Akwasidae should therefore be viewed beyond their ceremonial significance, describing them as opportunities for reflection, reconciliation and the strengthening of relationships among the people.
He urged chiefs, queenmothers, religious leaders, political representatives, security agencies and other stakeholders to work collectively to maintain peace and promote development across the traditional area.
The celebration brought together chiefs and queenmothers from various communities within Denkyira, as well as religious leaders, political representatives, security personnel and members of the public.
The event ended with renewed calls for unity, peaceful coexistence and collective action to advance the development of the Denkyira Traditional Area while safeguarding its cultural heritage.
