Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has gracefully accepted his departure from office, expressing profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve Ghana.
In a heartfelt statement issued on March 14, 2025, Dr. Dampare reflected on his tenure, acknowledging the overwhelming support he received from Ghanaians, both during his leadership and in the wake of his dismissal. He expressed appreciation to God, the Ghanaian people, and well-wishers across the globe for their prayers, blessings, and encouragement.
Recognizing the role of past and present administrations in his career, he thanked former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him as the IGP—a position that made him the youngest to ever hold the office in the Fourth Republic. He also extended gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for their collaborative working relationship in recent months.
Dr. Dampare highlighted the immense contributions of religious and traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions, acknowledging their wisdom, guidance, and feedback, which helped shape his leadership. He also commended the dedication of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and officers of the Ghana Police Service for their commitment to upholding law and order under his leadership.
Reflecting on his journey from a General Constable to the highest office within the Ghana Police Service, he described his 35-year career as a privilege and an honor. Notably, he was the youngest Commissioner of Police before ascending to the IGP position.
Despite his exit, Dr. Dampare reassured the nation of his unwavering commitment to Ghana’s progress. At nearly 55 years old, he affirmed that he remains energetic, disciplined, and ready to continue serving the country in any capacity.
His statement, signed by his Executive Assistant, Nana Osei Afrifa, serves as a dignified farewell, marking the end of an era for one of Ghana’s most distinguished police officers.
