Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG) has announced the appointment of Dr. Naomi Wolali Kwetey as its new Managing Director, effective March 26, 2025. The announcement, confirmed in an official letter signed by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, marks a significant leadership change at the bank.
Dr. Kwetey brings over 25 years of diverse experience in the financial sector, having worked in corporate relationship management, treasury, credit administration, branch banking marketing, and operational risk management. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Ghana, an MBA in International Banking and Finance from The Birmingham Business School, and a Doctorate in Business Administration and Management from Nobel International Business (NiBS) University.
In addition to Dr. Kwetey’s appointment, Sheila Azuntaba has been named Deputy Managing Director of CBG. Azuntaba, who previously served as the Assistant Vice President at Citigroup’s Global Transaction Services Unit in Nigeria, has an impressive background in product development, marketing, and sales strategies. Her career spans several countries, including Kenya and Ghana, where she managed high-profile portfolios in investment and commercial banking. Azuntaba holds an MBA in Finance from The Strathclyde Business School in Glasgow and a BA (HONS) in Marketing from the University of Westminster in London. She was also crowned Miss Ghana in 1996 and has been a vocal advocate for empowering financially excluded groups, especially women.
The appointments of Dr. Kwetey and Azuntaba come at a critical time for CBG, which is poised for strategic growth under their leadership. With their combined expertise in banking, finance, and management, the duo is expected to guide CBG towards sustained growth and operational excellence.
The Finance Minister has directed that these appointments be formalized in accordance with the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and the bank’s constitution, ensuring they meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
As CBG continues to solidify its position in the banking sector, the leadership of Dr. Kwetey and Azuntaba is expected to drive innovation, enhance operational efficiency, and contribute to the broader economic development of Ghana.
