The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotei, has declared a firm stance against corruption within the agency, warning that any staff involved in illegal licensing activities will be prosecuted.
In an exclusive interview with Accra-based Hot FM, Mr. Kotei revealed that his administration has launched investigations into allegations of staff colluding with unauthorized middlemen, commonly known as “goro boys,” to issue fraudulent licenses. He stressed that such corrupt practices not only undermine the agency’s integrity but also endanger lives on the road.
“Some employees are committed to serving the nation, but others are exploiting the system for personal gain. This must stop. Anyone caught engaging in illegal licensing will face prosecution,” he stated.
To curb these unethical activities, the DVLA boss announced that staff transfers will be strictly enforced to prevent employees from forming deep-rooted connections that enable malpractice. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring that all drivers go through the proper licensing process to enhance road safety.
Mr. Kotei assured the public that under his leadership, the DVLA will prioritize transparency and accountability, ensuring that only qualified drivers obtain licenses. His administration, he affirmed, is committed to restoring trust in the agency and making Ghana’s roads safer.
