The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly denied reports claiming it has approved an extension of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) services to Ghanaian residents abroad.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, February 26, 2026, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to a viral news headline alleging that it had granted approval for DVLA staff to travel to countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany to register and renew driving licences for Ghanaian drivers in the diaspora.
The Ministry categorically rejected the claim, stating that it has neither issued a directive to Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement.
According to the statement, the Ministry is not aware of any new government policy supporting the purported initiative. It further emphasized that there is no record at the Ministry indicating the existence of such a policy directive.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” the release noted, “there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to our attention and no financial commitment as irrefutable evidence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs establishes.”
The Ministry reassured the general public of its commitment to transparency and financial prudence in public service delivery, urging media houses and the public to disregard the circulating reports.
