The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reiterated its commitment to fostering strong partnerships with the media, following a special recognition by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) during World Press Freedom Day celebrations in Ho.
At the heart of the event, held on Saturday, May 3 at the Volta Regional Press Centre, was the presentation of a citation to ECG’s Volta and Oti regional branches for their unwavering support of media development and press freedom in the two regions.
The award underscores ECG’s active role in promoting transparency and strengthening stakeholder communication in its operational zones.
Receiving the citation, Madam Eunice Tweneboa-Kodua, the Regional Public Relations Officer for ECG, expressed deep appreciation to the GJA for the honour, describing it as “a testament to the value of collaboration between public institutions and the press.”
She lauded journalists for their critical role in building democratic societies and keeping citizens informed. “At ECG, we see the media not just as reporters but as partners in national development. Your work informs, educates, and holds power accountable,” she said.
Madam Tweneboa-Kodua also addressed the intersection of journalism and emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, urging practitioners to maintain the ethical standards that define credible reporting. “AI is reshaping news production and dissemination, but ethics must remain the bedrock of journalism. Protect your credibility,” she advised.
The event brought renewed focus to the importance of ethical journalism, media independence, and cross-sector collaboration. It also highlighted how institutions like ECG are stepping beyond their core mandates to invest in democratic engagement and information sharing at the community level.
The ECG pledged to continue its support for initiatives that empower journalists and reinforce regional development. “We’re proud to stand with the GJA and all stakeholders in building a resilient media landscape in the Volta and Oti regions,” Madam Tweneboa-Kodua stated.
Other individuals and organisations were also recognised for their contributions to media growth, including former GJA Volta/Oti Chair Mr. Kafui Kanyi and LOGO Motors CEO Mr. Gershon Adeklo.
The ceremony echoed a broader message: that corporate support for the media is not just goodwill, but a strategic investment in democratic progress and societal wellbeing.
