A regenerative restoration social enterprise, Eco Restore Ltd, has been recognised for its work in restoring indigenous trees after being named the Best Shea Nursery Operator for 2026.
The recognition was presented during the Tree Crops Excellence Awards 2026, organised by the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) as part of the Ghana Tree Crops Investment Summit 2026.
The award acknowledged the organisation’s contribution to the development of Ghana’s tree crop sector and its efforts to restore indigenous tree species across several communities.
According to TCDA, Eco Restore operates in more than 60 communities across four regions of Ghana, where it has planted over one million indigenous trees, including shea.
Beyond shea cultivation, the organisation also promotes the restoration of other indigenous species such as baobab, dawadawa and tamarind to support environmental sustainability and improve food security.
The award was received by the organisation’s directors, Dr Peter Lovett and Senyo Kpelly, who expressed appreciation to staff, partners and community members for their contributions to the initiative.
In a statement delivered on behalf of the directors, Dr Lovett said the recognition reflected the collective efforts of the organisation’s staff, nursery teams and partners who continue to support restoration activities across the country.
Eco Restore’s approach to landscape restoration blends traditional ecological knowledge with modern restoration science, enabling the organisation to rehabilitate degraded lands while supporting climate action initiatives.
The organisation also acknowledged the critical role played by women shea collectors who supply superior germplasm for its nurseries, as well as women working in the nurseries to nurture the seedlings.
Eco Restore further highlighted its long-standing collaboration with the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG), which has supported research and technical work in the development of indigenous tree crops.
Dr Lovett called on government agencies, development partners and private sector actors to support initiatives such as shea parkland restoration to strengthen livelihoods and protect Ghana’s natural ecosystems.
The Ghana Tree Crops Investment Summit 2026 brought together policymakers, investors, private sector stakeholders and development partners to explore strategies for sustainable investment and growth within Ghana’s tree crop industry.
