Frank Amoakohene has cut the sod for the construction of a major 24-hour model market in Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality as part of government’s push to expand local economic activity under its “Resetting Agenda.”
The project, to be built in Ejura, will include a police station, fire station, clinic, pharmacy, model school, restaurants, women’s bank, warehouse facilities, lockable stores and open market stalls to support round-the-clock trading.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Amoakohene said the initiative forms part of government’s broader plan to establish similar commercial centres across districts nationwide to drive the proposed 24-hour economy policy.
He praised John Dramani Mahama for introducing the initiative and also commended the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for supporting its implementation.
The Regional Minister further acknowledged the contributions of the area’s Member of Parliament, Mohammed Bawah Bariamah, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Rafiu Adams Seidu, toward development projects within the municipality.
Dr Amoakohene urged traditional authorities and residents to cooperate fully with contractors to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
Speaking at the event, the MCE expressed appreciation to President Mahama and the Ashanti Regional Minister for extending development projects to the municipality.
He highlighted several projects already undertaken through the District Assembly Common Fund, including the construction of Community-based Health Planning and Services compounds, classroom blocks, toilet facilities, mechanised boreholes and sanitation projects.
Meanwhile, Barima Osei Hwedie II pledged the support of the traditional council for government development initiatives and assured authorities of the availability of land for future projects in the municipality.
