A major road accident involving three vehicles on the Kumasi-Accra Highway at Odumase near Konongo in the Ashanti Region has left at least 15 people feared dead, with several others injured.
The crash, which occurred on the busy highway, involved a passenger bus, a truck transporting tomatoes and an empty fuel tanker.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the accident may have been triggered by a dangerous overtaking attempt by one of the vehicles, resulting in a head-on collision that caused extensive damage to the vehicles.
Emergency teams, including the police and other first responders, rushed to the scene to assist victims trapped in the wreckage. Some injured passengers were transported to nearby health facilities for urgent medical attention.
The incident caused significant traffic congestion along the Kumasi-Accra corridor as authorities worked to clear the wreckage, manage traffic and conduct rescue operations.
The crash has renewed concerns about road safety on the highway, which remains one of Ghana’s busiest transport routes.
Meanwhile, another accident was reported shortly after at Dadieso, also within the Konongo area, further heightening safety concerns among road users.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement confirming the number of fatalities, injured persons or the exact circumstances that led to the crashes. Rescue and investigative operations are ongoing.
