The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued an urgent recall of Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte, specifically the Tetra Pak (250ml) and Canned (330ml Pétillante) variants, due to regulatory and safety concerns.
The FDA cited multiple violations that prompted the recall:
- The importer of the product has not registered with the FDA, which is a direct violation of Sections 97, 98, and 103 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851). As a result, the sale and distribution of the product are deemed illegal.
- The Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte has not undergone the FDA’s registration and approval process, meaning its safety and quality have not been verified.
- The packaging and product size raise concerns about potential deceptive marketing, as they could lead to accidental alcohol consumption by children, posing a serious health risk.
The FDA has issued directives to ensure public safety and compliance:
- Consumers are strongly urged to avoid purchasing or consuming these unregistered products.
- Retailers and wholesalers must immediately stop the sale and distribution of Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte.
- All existing stocks should be returned to Cave and Garden Ghana Limited or the nearest FDA office.
- The importer has been sanctioned, and the FDA is enforcing regulatory measures to ensure compliance with public health laws.
The FDA reaffirmed its dedication to protecting public health and has encouraged citizens to report any sightings of the recalled product in circulation. Reports can be made through the FDA’s official website (www.fdaghana.gov.gh), phone hotlines (0551112224/5), or email ([email protected]).
The Chief Executive Officer of the FDA emphasized that these measures are part of the agency’s broader efforts to safeguard consumer health and ensure that only registered and approved products are available on the market.
