Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have prevented a warehouse fire in Accra’s South Industrial Area from spreading to nearby shops and buildings.
The fire, which broke out on Saturday, April 18, affected the top-floor warehouse of a one-storey building owned by Believe in God Company, a business involved in plastic disposable materials.
According to a statement from the GNFS, the fire was reported at 6:10 p.m., and firefighters from the Industrial Area Fire Station arrived at the scene within six minutes.
Additional support was later provided by teams from the National Headquarters, Accra City, Trade Fair and Madina Fire Stations, while a Turn-Table Ladder from Tema was also deployed to assist with the operation.
The GNFS said the coordinated response helped contain the fire by 10:23 p.m., bring it under control by 11:28 p.m., and completely extinguish it by 11:47 p.m.
Although the blaze partially destroyed plastic disposable materials and damaged the upper section of the building, firefighters managed to save the ground floor, adjoining shops and other nearby structures.
No injuries or deaths were recorded in the incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established, as investigations are ongoing.
The GNFS has meanwhile urged business owners, warehouse operators and the general public to comply with fire safety measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
