Ghana’s First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, has called attention to the critical role of women in national development as the country marks Mother’s Day 2025.
In a heartfelt message released on Sunday, Mrs. Mahama praised Ghanaian mothers as the backbone of their families and communities, emphasizing their influence on the nation’s growth and stability.
“Our mothers are the heartbeat of our nation, the silent architects of our progress, and the foundation upon which strong families and communities are built,” she stated.
The First Lady noted that the contributions of women extend far beyond the household, pointing to their impact on the economy, education, healthcare, and social stability.
“Mothers are not just caregivers but leaders, educators, and economic drivers,” Mrs. Mahama emphasized. “Their sacrifices and resilience lay the groundwork for a compassionate society.”
Empowering Women for a Stronger Ghana
Highlighting her ongoing work through the Lordina Foundation, Mrs. Mahama reaffirmed her commitment to empowering women and vulnerable groups through skills training, financial support, and advocacy.
“Through the Lordina Foundation, we are equipping women with the tools they need to thrive, ensuring they can support their families and contribute meaningfully to national development,” she said.
The First Lady also reiterated her focus on maternal and child health, pledging continued efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure, including maternity and children’s wards, across the country.
Supporting Economic Stability
Mrs. Mahama linked the well-being of mothers to broader national goals, aligning her message with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for economic recovery and job creation.
“He remains steadfast in his commitment to resetting our economy for robust and inclusive growth, creating jobs for the youth, and attracting both local and international investment,” she noted.
A Call to Recognize and Celebrate Women
Concluding her message, Mrs. Mahama celebrated all Ghanaian mothers, acknowledging their daily struggles and invaluable contributions to the nation’s progress.
“Your sacrifices, strength, and love are the true foundation of our society,” she said. “Today, we honour you not just as mothers, but as the leaders, visionaries, and changemakers you are.”
