Efforts to boost economic activity in fishing communities within the Krachi East Municipality have received a major push with the rehabilitation of a key road network connecting Cement, Kpogede, and Aziziakpe.
The initiative, led by Safo Nketia, is expected to ease the transportation of fresh fish and other goods, improving access to markets and reducing post-harvest losses for local fishermen.
Residents say poor road conditions have long hindered trade, increased travel time, and driven up vehicle maintenance costs, limiting economic potential in the area.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive, the project forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen rural infrastructure and promote inclusive development. He noted that improving feeder roads remains critical to unlocking opportunities in agriculture and fishing-dependent communities.
The rehabilitation works will include grading, reshaping the road surface, and constructing drainage systems to ensure durability, particularly during heavy rains.
Community leaders have welcomed the intervention, expressing hope that the improved road will attract investment, create jobs for the youth, and stimulate business growth across the enclave.
Authorities have also made provisions for routine maintenance to sustain the road and ensure long-term benefits for residents and traders alike.
